Corinth Residents,
2005 has been another busy
year in the village. Our Village Board is committed to improving and rebuilding
our infrastructure, as we feel this is the best way to improve services for our
residents. It is also necessary if we are to attract new business and industry
that will ultimately improve our tax base. We have a few construction projects
that are nearing completion.
Our new firehouse is nearly
done and we have planned a dedication ceremony on Saturday November 19th,
10am at the new firehouse, 16 Saratoga Ave. Assemblywoman Teresa Sayward will
be in attendance and we welcome everyone to attend and look over this new
public building that will better accommodate our fire department. It will
contain a much needed community room that can be used for public meetings and
functions. We are thankful for the co-operation of Supervisor Lucia and the
town board, and the help of Superintendent Harry Plummer and the town Highway
Department that worked closely with our Village DPW in doing much of the site
work that saved taxpayer money.
Another major project that
started this summer was the replacement of over 200 feet of Maple St sidewalk
and curbing, and the rebuilding of the retaining wall on the South side of
Maple St. In preparation for this work, last year we replaced the aging water
& sewer lines in this section. After 5 long years of letter writing, and
the help of Senator Farley, New York State was convinced to repave 9N through
the village. Together, these improvements dramatically enhanced the appearance
of this gateway too our village.
The dilapidated 650 ft Palmer Ave retaining wall by the Evergreen Health Center is now being replaced & the new
railing should be completed sometime in December. These repairs were long
overdue and will give our village a much needed facelift, as well as improve
the safety of this heavily traveled walkway. We thank Senator Hugh Farley
& Assemblywoman Teresa Sayward for coming through with $130,000 in grant
money that helped underwrite this project.
Our DPW department under
the direction of Superintendant Lozier was hard at work all year and did a
great job in replacing the water line, installing new curbs, rebuilding &
repaving Beech St. They also tackled a major portion of Oak St, replacing
sidewalks, curbing, new pavement, and assisted in the needed replacement of
water & sewer lines on Saratoga Ave.
Rebuilding our aging
infrastructure cannot be done without some necessary inconveniences along the
way, and unfortunately it usually looks worse before it looks better. We hope
you share our enthusiasm in the work that has been accomplished and your
Village Board thanks you for your patience.
Our police department,
under the direction of Chief Robert Kane, has also had a busy year. In addition
to their regular police duties, our department has found the time to visit
school classrooms, host their well attended and now famous annual “Bike Rodeo”,
and are currently working with a committee to get an effective neighborhood
watch program underway.
The IP Mill property was
sold recently to Philmet Inc, a division of Philips International. We are all
excited with the prospect of new industry that will improve our tax base and
bring back jobs that were lost with the IP Mill closing. As of this date, we
are awaiting word from Philip’s as to who the prospective tenants will be. We
will keep you abreast of new developments as they occur.
Our Village Clerk of 13
years, Wally Estill, will be retiring on December 23, 2005. We thank Wally for
many years of tireless service to our village, and we ask you to join us in
wishing Wally & Shirley many happy years together in their retirement.
Nicole Colson will become our next Village Clerk and will be in training
starting Oct 31st. We invite you to stop in and meet her. Happy
holidays to all!
Sincerely yours,
Brad Winslow, Mayor
